Exploring the influence of the North Pacific Rossby wave sources on the variability of summer atmospheric circulation and precipitation over the Northern Hemisphere

Abstract The influence of Rossby waves emitted in the northeastern Pacific Ocean on Northern Hemisphere’s atmosphere during summer is analysed using ERA5 reanalysis and a new large ensemble performed with EC-Earth3 model. Wave Sources (RWS) trigger wave-like patterns arising from upper troposphere north-eastern region, causing response around Hemisphere alternating regions positive negative correlation values between RWS geopotential height at 500 hPa. Increased intensity related to temperature anomalies over western North America, eastern concurrently increased precipitation subtropical Atlantic Europe summer. Colder than normal conditions intensify its impact global atmospheric circulation. Different warm or cold states Oceans modify RWS, showing change middle (500 hPa) towards more-wavy structure conditions, less-wavy Ocean.
